Not long ago, I sat with a man whose life had crumbled in front of him, a once-thriving businessman with all the signs of success: big house, cars, influence. But one decision, just one, set off a chain reaction. He had trusted the wrong people, made hasty moves, and ignored sound advice.
When I asked him what he wished he had done differently, he didn’t hesitate. He looked at me and said, “I wish I had wisdom.”
Pause for a moment and think: How many times have we said that after a broken relationship, a failed deal, or a missed opportunity? “I wish I had wisdom.”
Wisdom is not just for professors or theologians. It is for your marriage, your finances, your career, your purpose. It’s not just knowledge; it’s the divine ability to apply truth in the right way, at the right time, for the right reason. And that’s where our story begins.

What made Solomon the wisest man who ever lived? What gave him such insight that leaders from around the world traveled miles just to sit and listen?
The answer lies in a quiet but life-altering moment between Solomon and God, recorded in 1 Kings 3 verse 5 and 14. The Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream and said, “Ask what I shall give thee.”
Solomon responded, not with a list of personal ambitions, but with a deep recognition of his responsibility: “Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad.”
And God was pleased. Not only did He give him wisdom, He gave him what he didn’t even ask for, both riches and honor. God said, “There has been none like you before, neither after you shall any arise like unto you.”
That was the turning point. Solomon didn’t get wisdom because he was already wise; he got it because he asked for it humbly, understanding that leadership without divine guidance is dangerous.
This moment is an invitation for you and me to do the same. When life offers you choices, what are you asking God for? Is it survival, or is it wisdom? Because the Bible still says in James 1 verse 5, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God… and it shall be given him.”
Solomon became a man whose voice still echoes through Proverbs and Ecclesiastes. His writings are a treasure chest of counsel on work, relationships, leadership, and the fear of God. And all of it began with one honest request: Lord, give me wisdom. If you’re tired of surface-level living and you’re hungry for something deeper, this is your moment.
